| Britwell Hill, just off the M40, junction 5 is a
category D road and carries very little traffic.
It drops dead straight (from SE to NW), with spectacular views all the way, for ½ a mile off the top of the Chilterns from one of the highest points in SE England. It then crosses the prehistoric Icknield Way (a bridleway and one of the oldest roads in the UK) round a slight bend and then straight for another mile. Situated in one of the most unspoiled rural locations just off the M40 west of High Wycombe and used over the years in countless productions. Known locally as “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang hill”, it was also featured in Bridget Jones’ Diary. Red Kites, descendents of a few breeding pairs of these magnificent birds with a 4 to 5ft wingspan that were introduced into the hills by Paul Getty in the late 1980’s, as well as Buzzards, can be seen soaring off the headland most days. Apart from the production base, Britwell Hill Farm at the top, there are no buildings or private off-road parking over its entire length. . . . . . . . and all this only 50 minutes from Notting Hill |
